Overview

Lord Muruga (Subrahmanya/Karthikeya), son of Shiva and Parvathi and brother of Lord Ganesha (elephant-headed god) is worshiped in Tamil Nadu as the patron deity of Tamizh language. He has six special temples dedicated to him called Aaru Padai Veedu. Thse temples are six camps associated with Muruga’s role as Commander-in-chief of the army of the gods.

The Aaru Padai Veedus, the Six Holy Abodes (literally: ‘battle camps’) are very important for Muruga or Karthikeya’s devotees. The six temples of Karthikeya are in Tirupparamkundram, Tiruchendur, Tiruvavinankudi (Palani), Tiruverakam (Swamimalai), Tiruttani and Pazhamudircholai.


Itinerary

    ARRIVAL TRICHY - PALANI

    After arriving Trichy, meeting our representative then proceed to Palani. On arrival go for darshan in Palani Sri Thandhayuthapani murugan temple, one of the arupadai veedu and most crowded murugan temple in south india. After darshan free at leisure. Overnight stay at Palani.

    PALANI - MADURAI

    After breakfast drive you to Madurai. On arrival Madurai, go for darshan in world famous Meenatchi Amman temple, Pazhamuthir cholai murugan temple(One of the Arupadai Veedu) and Thiruparangundram Murugan temple(One of the Arupadai Veedu). After darshan check into hotel. Overnight stay at Madurai.

    MADURAI - THIRUCHENDUR

    After breakfast, drive to Thiruchedur. On arrival go for darshan in Thiruchendur Murugan temple, one of the arupadai veedu temple on the sea side. After darshan check into hotel. Then free at leisure. Overnight stay at Thiruchendur.

    THIRUCHENDUR – THANJAVUR - KUMBAKONAM

    Morning after breakfast drive you to Kumbakonam. Enroute visit Thanjavur Big temple, built by Raja Raja Cholan. Then move to Kumbakonam. On arrival go for darshan in Swami malai murugan temple, one of the arupadai veedu. After darshan check-in at hotel. Overnight stay in Kumbakonam.

    After breakfast proceed to Kanchipuram, on arrival go for darshan in Ekambareswarar temple and Kanchi kamachi amman temple. After darshan free and easy for shopping. Overnight stay in Kanchipuram.

    Morning after breakfast drive you to Chennai, Enroute go for darshan in Tiruthani Murugan temple, one of the arupadai veedu. After darshan move to Chennai, On arrival visit Marina beach, Anna, MGR & Jayalalitha memorial and Kabaleeswarar temple. Then free and easy for shopping. Overnight stay in Chennai.

PALANI

The palani Sri Dhandayuthapani Temple is one of the most significant temples dedicated to Lord Murugan in Tamil Nadu. The main deity, Lord Dhandayuthapani, is worshipped in the form of a shivalingam, which is enshrined inside the temple. The temple is believed to have been established by Bhogar, a Siddhar, who is said to have consecrated the idol.

Perform the traditional prayers and offer flowers, fruits, or coconuts. Many devotees also offer palm jaggery (known as "panam kalkandu") as an offering to the deity, as it is considered sacred.

MADURAI

Meenakshi Amman Temple is the centerpiece of Madurai and one of the most revered Hindu temples in India. Dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi (Parvati) and Lord Sundareswarar (Shiva), it is known for its stunning Dravidian architecture and towering gopurams (gateway towers). Take a dip in the Golden Lotus Tank (Porthamarai Kulam), located inside the temple. It is believed to purify your soul and body.

Located about 21 kilometers from Madurai, Alagar Kovil is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Alagar (Azhagar) form. The temple is situated on the Alagar Hill, offering a peaceful and scenic environment.

THIRUCHENDUR

The Thiruchendur Murugan Temple is one of the most sacred and revered temples dedicated to Lord Murugan in Tamil Nadu. This is one of the six Arupadai Veedu (six battle camps) temples of Lord Murugan. This uniquely located on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, and the temple complex has direct access to the beach. Pilgrims often take a dip in the sacred waters of the sea as part of their purification process.

THANJAVUR

The Raja Raja Cholan Temple (more formally known as the Brihadeeswarar Temple or Big Temple) in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, is one of the most iconic and historically significant temples in India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built by the Chola king Raja Raja Chola I in the 11th century. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is celebrated for its grandeur, architectural brilliance, and religious importance.

KUMBAKONAM

The Swamimalai Temple in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, is one of the temple towns' most revered sites and a part of the Arupadai Veedu (six holy abodes) dedicated to Lord Murugan (Karthikeya), the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The temple is situated atop a hill and requires you to climb 60 steps to reach the main shrine.

KANCHIPURAM

Kanchipuram, one of the seven Moksha-puris (sacred cities) in India, is a major pilgrimage destination in Tamil Nadu. Known as the “City of Thousand Temples”, Kanchipuram is renowned for its rich spiritual heritage, grand architecture, and ancient temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Shakti.

Ekambareswarar Temple is one of the Pancha Bhoota Sthalas (five sacred temples dedicated to the elements), representing Earth (Prithvi). It is a grand Shiva temple and one of the most important temples in Kanchipuram.

The Kamakshi Amman Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi, an incarnation of Parvati. It is one of the Shakti Peethas and an important pilgrimage site for followers of the Shakta tradition. It is believed that performing special prayers to Kamakshi can bless devotees with a happy married life.

TIRUTHANI

Tiruthani Murugan Temple, located in Tiruthani, Tamil Nadu, is one of the Arupadai Veedu (six sacred abodes) of Lord Murugan. Situated atop a hill, this temple is an important pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Murugan, who is worshipped as the God of War and the Son of Lord Shiva. Tiruthani is believed to be the place where Lord Murugan married Deivayanai (the daughter of Indra), and it is considered a place of great spiritual significance.

CHENNAI

The Kapaleeshwarar Temple is one of the most important Hindu temples in Chennai, dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Kapaleeshwarar and his consort Karpagambal (the goddess). The Ucchi Pillayar Temple is located on top of the Rockfort Hill, one of Trichy’s most famous landmarks. To reach the Ucchi Pillayar Temple, you must climb 437 steps to the top of Rockfort Hill. The climb can be a bit challenging, but it offers a unique experience. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha (Ucchi Pillayar) and is known for its stunning location atop a massive rock outcrop, offering panoramic views of the city below.
