Lord Muruga (Subrahmanya/Karthikeya), son of Shiva and Parvathi and brother of Lord Ganesha (elephant-headed god) is worshiped in Tamil Nadu as the patron deity of Tamizh language. He has six special temples dedicated to him called Aaru Padai Veedu. Thse temples are six camps associated with Muruga’s role as Commander-in-chief of the army of the gods.
The Aaru Padai Veedus, the Six Holy Abodes (literally: ‘battle camps’) are very important for Muruga or Karthikeya’s devotees. The six temples of Karthikeya are in Tirupparamkundram, Tiruchendur, Tiruvavinankudi (Palani), Tiruverakam (Swamimalai), Tiruttani and Pazhamudircholai.

PALANI
The palani Sri Dhandayuthapani Temple is one of the most significant temples dedicated to Lord Murugan in Tamil Nadu. The main deity, Lord Dhandayuthapani, is worshipped in the form of a shivalingam, which is enshrined inside the temple. The temple is believed to have been established by Bhogar, a Siddhar, who is said to have consecrated the idol.
Perform the traditional prayers and offer flowers, fruits, or coconuts. Many devotees also offer palm jaggery (known as "panam kalkandu") as an offering to the deity, as it is considered sacred.
