1. Government Museum - The Government Museum also known as Egmore Museum or the Madras Museum is the second oldest museums in India after Indian museum in Kolkatta which is located in Egmore, Chennai. If you have any interest in Indian art this place is a must! an amazing collection of classic Indian bronze sculptures of dancing Siva's, Ganesh and Kali. These works are well lit, superb and well worth a look. This government museum has some primitive statues and some old artefacts. The most striking feature or attractive thing about this is the collection of paintings from the British era. Some paintings are of great painter Raja Ravi Verma. There are a lot of interesting displays in here including old statues of Hindu gods which are very impressive.

2. VGP Universal & Snow Kingdom - VGP Universal Kingdom is an amusement park located in East Coast Road in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is the best theme park in Chennnai. 3. Guindy National Park & Snake Park - It is the 8th-smallest National Park of India and one of the very few national parks situated inside a city (Adyar). Guindy Snake Park, it is located next to the Children's Park in the Guindy National Park campus. In addition to over thirty Indian snakes, this specialty zoo is home to domestic and exotic crocodiles, turtles and tortoises. A library and museum are also on site. For those interested in the study of snakes it is a wonderful place. Though creepy and scary at times, it is a place worth the visit.

4. Valluvar Kottam - It's a temple chariot like-monument in kodambakkam in Chennai, dedicated to the classical tamil poet philosopher Thiruvalluvar. In addition to being an important tourist destination in the city, Valluvar Kottam also plays host to some of the most important exhibitions and events in the city. Handlooms and handicrafts are regularly hosted in the auditorium here and is a good way to spend a few hours admiring the artistic beauty of both the what lays inside and outside. 

5. DakshinaChitra - DakshinaChitra is a living-history museum in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, dedicated to South Indian heritage and culture. Located 25 kms to the south of Chennai. It portrays a slice of the traditions, art, architecture, lifestyles, crafts and customs of 4 South Indian states - Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

6. B.M. Birla Planetarium - B. M. Birla Planetarium is a large planetarium in kotturpuram, Chennai providing a virtual tour of the night sky and holding cosmic shows on a specially perforated hemispherical aluminium inner dome. Multi-dimensional activities and multimedia projection arrangements which have been incorporated inside the sky theatre make the programme further lively and excited one.

7. Arignar Anna Zoological Park - It is the first public zoo in India, also known as the Vandalur Zoo, is a zoological garden located in Vandalur, is in the south western part of Chennai, about 31 kilometres from the Chennai Central and 15 kilometres from Chennai Airport. Well maintained zoo with an amazing diversity of flora and fauna. The animals are well kept and healthy. The four Bengal tigers born in the zoo were a treat to watch. It's a huge space and lots of walking required. Great that they have bicycle and e-vehicle option to roam in the zoo.

8. St. Thomas Mount - St. Thomas Mount is a small hillock in Chennai, near Guindy and very close to Chennai International Airport. The ancient Syrian Christian community of India trace the origin of their church to St. Thomas the Apostle.

9. Vivekananda House - Vivekanandar Illam, earlier known as Ice House or Castle Kernan is a historical building in Chennai. It was constructed in 1842 by Frederic Tudor. Indian Saint Swami Vivekananda stayed in the building when he visited Chennai in 1897 and was later renamed in his honor. Now, this historic place houses a permanent exhibition on Indian Culture and Swami Vivekananda’s Life.

10. MGM Dizzee World - MGM Dizzee World is a theme park located in East Coast Road, Chennai. The park has a log flume, Ferris wheel, spider spin, roller coaster, the funny mountain, dashing cars, super trooper, a water world and it also hosts special seasonal shows.

11. Queens Land - Queens Land is a theme park is located by the Chennai-Bangalore Trunk Road between Sriperumpudhur and Poonamalle.

The entry fee is 750 INR for an adult and 450 INR for a child. Children shorter than 2 feet (0.61 m) tall are not charged.

The park is open from 10 am to 6:30 pm on weekdays and 10:00 am to 7:30 pm on weekends and government holidays. It is closed on Mondays for maintenance, with the exception of holidays. Food and drink are available within the park.

12. Kishkinta - Kishkinta is a theme park located in Chennai, near Vandalur Railway station which has a serene atmosphere, 13 km south of Anakaputhur.

16. ISKCON - ISKCON Temple Chennai is a Vaishnava temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is located on the East Coast Road at Akkarai, Sholinganallur in southern Chennai. Built on 1.5 acres of land, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness Chennai is the largest Radha Krishna temple in Tamil Nadu.

17. Sowcarpet - Sowcarpet is a neighbourhood in the northern part of Chennai. Sowcarpet is one of the oldest neighbourhoods of the city with narrow streets and vintage buildings. It is a bustling commercial area of the city, and a range of wholesale markets are located here.

1. Marudhamalai - Marudhachalamurthy Temple, Marudamalai is a popular 12th century hill temple with about 837 steps dedicated to Hindu god Murugan, situated near Coimbatore. It is considered as the Seventh House of Lord Murugan. This hill temple is about 12 km away from Coimbatore.

2. Siruvani Waterfalls - Siruvani Waterfalls and the dam named after them are located 36 km west of Coimbatore in the Western Ghats. The reservoir at Siruvani was built for Tamil Nadu by the Kerala government with funds collected by the Tamil Nadu government to meet the drinking water requirements of Coimbatore. The area below the Siruvani, Muthikulam falls, Gobiyaru, Solaiyaru, Pattiyaru, Veeraru and Paambaru falls, the main sources of supply, was identified for construction.

3. Dhyanalinga - Spacious yoga & meditation centre featuring cozy residential cottages, a restaurant & a crafts shop. The Isha Yoga Center is situated 30 kilometers (20 miles) west of Coimbatore.

5. Black Thunder Theme Park - Black Thunder is a water theme park is situated at the foot of Nilgiris near Mettupalayam, in Coimbatore 40 km north of the city and occupies an area of about 75 acres. The park offers about 49 rides, Surf Hill and the Wild River Ride notable among them. Those looking for a splendid escape near Coimbatore in the scorching summer heat must visit the Black Thunder.

6. VOC park and Zoo - V O Chidambaranar park and zoo is a zoological garden and amusement park located in Coimbatore. 7. 112 Feet Adiyogi - The Adiyogi statue is a 34.3-metre-tall excluding plinth, 45-metre-long and 7.62-metre-wide statue of the Hindu deity Shiva with white Thirunamam at Coimbatore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, which has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the "Largest Bust Sculpture” in the world.

8. Anamalai Tiger Reserve - Anamalai Tiger Reserve, earlier known as Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park and previously as Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, is a protected area located in the Anaimalai Hills of Pollachi, Valparai and Udumalpet taluks of Coimbatore District and Tiruppur District, Tamil Nadu, India. This tiger reserve is home to all kinds of exotic endemic wildlife, much of it rare and endangered – including leopards and around 30 elusive tigers, though you’re much more likely to see lion-tailed macaques, peacocks, langurs, spotted deer and elephants, or crocodiles.

2. Government Botanical Garden - The Government Botanical Garden in Udhagamandalam was laid out in 1848. The Gardens, divided into several sections, cover an area of around 55 hectares, and lie on the lower slopes of Doddabetta peak. The garden has a terraced layout. The month of April and May are the ideal time to enjoy this garden in full bloom and natural glory.

3. Government Rose Garden - The Government Rose Garden is situated on the slopes of the Elk Hill in Vijayanagaram of Ooty town, at an altitude of 2200 meters. A visitor after visiting this Rose Garden can feel the satisfaction of having seen almost all the varieties of roses available in India in one place. On an average eight lakh visitors enjoy this fabulous collection of Roses every year which has become one of the Best Rose Garden in the whole of India. This Government Rose Garden is the only Garden in India having been awarded with ‘GARDEN EXCELLENCE’ from the World Rose Federation.

4. St. Stephen's Church - St. Stephen's Church is located on the road to Mysore in Ooty,  It is one of the oldest churches in the Nilgiris district. The main beam and all the required timber were taken from Tipu Sultan's palace after the British defeated him in the Mysore War. The timber was bought all the way down from Seringapatanam and carried through the Sigur Ghat. The marvel of British architecture is clearly visible in the church and it also has a painting of the Last Supper. The St Stephens Church is visited by lots of tourists every year and it is a main tourist attraction in Ooty. The structure still stands tall and there are no signs of wear and tear although it has been about two hundred years since it was built.

5. The Tea Factory and Museum - Set a top one of the many blue hills of the Nilgiris District and adjacent to the Dodabetta Tea Factory, the Tea Museum is a ‘must-see’ for all tea lovers. They charge one entry for INR 10/- to visit the plant and explain how the Tea is being produced from the leafs and while you complete the visit, someone would be handing you over a cup of tea, equally good to taste. The return path is channelled in a way that covers their sales counter, showing varieties of flavoured and organic teas. The next passage is for the chocolate factory adjacent to the tea factory.

6. Nilgiri Mountain Railway - The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is a 1,000 mm metre gauge railway in Tamil Nadu, India, built by the British in 1908. The railway is operated by the Southern Railway and is the only rack railway in India. The quaint toy train pulls blue and cream wooden carriages with large windows. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway runs from Mettupalayam to Udagamandalam (Ooty), via Coonoor, in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu.

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is 46 kilometers (28.5 miles) long. It passes through many tunnels, and over hundreds of bridges (about 30 of them are large ones). The railway is particularly picturesque because of the surrounding rocky terrain, ravines, tea plantations, and thickly forested hills. Coonoor, with its world famous teas, is a tourist destination in itself. The most spectacular scenery and best views are situated along the stretch from Mettupalayam to Coonoor. Hence, some people prefer to only travel along this part.

Regular Train Services and Fares

One toy train service operates on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway from Mettupalayam to Ooty per day.  There are seven stations along the route. The timetable is as follows:

The Mettupalayam-Ooty train leaves Mettupalayam at 7.10 a.m and arrives in Ooty at noon. Coming back, the Ooty-Mettupalayam train leaves Ooty at 2 p.m. and reaches Mettupalayam at 5.35 p.m.

Also there are 3 toy trains daily from Ooty to Coonoor, the first toy train from Ooty leaves at 09:15 hours and reaches Coonoor at 10:25 hours and at 12:15 hours and reaches Coonoor at 13:20 hours and at 18:00 hours and reaches Coonoor at 19:10 hours.

The Coonoor-Ooty train leaves Coonoor at 12:35 hours and arrives in Ooty at 13:50 and at 16:30 hours and reaches Ooty at 17:45 hours.

7. 9. Doddabetta - Doddabetta is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Mountains at 2,637 metres. There is a reserved forest area around the peak. It is 9 km from Ooty, on the Ooty-Kotagiri Road in the Nilgiris District. It is a popular tourist attraction with road access to the summit.

10. Ketti Valley View Point - Ketti Valley View Point is a popular vantage point situated on Ooty - Coonoor Road in Nilgiris district. It is one the most beautiful sightseeing places in Ooty and also one of the top places to experince Ooty. As the name suggests, the view point provides a panoramic view of the Ketti Valley, the largest valley in the Nilgiris, and it's beautiful surroundings.

11. Kalhatti Falls - Kalhatti Falls is a tourist spot near Ooty, are about 13 km from Ooty. From the Kalhatti village one has to continue for 2 miles to reach the falls and the falls is connected in the same Kalhatti village road. It is one of the top places to visit in Ooty and also one of the best waterfalls in Ooty. The falls offer best views during the monsoon season. The falls is mostly dried up in winter & summer seasons.

12. 9th Mile Shooting Point - The name itself suggests that 9th mile is located 9 miles away from ooty city. It is one of the best scenic view and most attractive tourist spot in Ooty. It is fully surrounded by lush green, mountains and dense forest . This place is extremely calm and scenic lending a perfect venue for hangout zone. So by inflicting this place you can have a leisure trip. Pykara is near to the 9th mile.

13. Pykara - Pykara is the name of a village and river 19 kms from Ooty is considered very sacred by the Todas. It rises at Mukurthi peak, flows northwards, and then turns to the west after reaching the edge of the plateau. As the river flows down the mountains it forms two majestic waterfalls. To bask in the summer sun by the side of the lake or go boating in the lake are the favorite pastimes of people who visit there. The best time to see the falls is in July. The falls can be reached by little moderate walk (5-10 mins) on well laid path from the parking location.

14. Avalanche Lake - Avalanche Lake is located 28 kms from Ooty in the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu. If you are interested in spending the night there, take a tent with you as you have provisions for pitching tents there. The lake is available for fishing and nearby the lake itself you have a trout hatchery, from where you can get fishing rods and other essentials you require. A perfect hang out during the daytime, you can set up a camp site and cook the fish you caught and then enjoy the night in the night in the tent with your family.

15. Emerald Lake - Emerald Lake is near Emerald village in the Nilgiris district located in a region called the silent valley, about 25 kms from the Ooty town. Far from maddening crowds packed in the town, this place is untouched by regular tourists. The blue water of the lake and the woods around are home to a number of flora and fauna, and the most visible among them are the different types of domestic birds. The Tea gardens is a great spot to spend some time as it gives a memorable experience. Trekking is another activity visitors can indulge in.

1. Lalbagh Botanical Garden - Lalbagh or Botanical Gardens, meaning The Red Garden in English, is a well-known botanical garden in southern Bengaluru, India. It has a famous glass house dating from 1889 which hosts two annual flower shows. The foundation stone for the Glass House, modeled on London's Crystal Palace was laid on 30 November 1889 by Prince Albert Victor and was built by John Cameron, the then superintendent of Lalbagh.

2. Sri Chamarajendra Park - Cubbon Park, officially called Sri Chamarajendra Park is a landmark 'lung' area of Bengaluru city, located within the heart of the city in the Central Administrative Area. It's a major sightseeing attraction rich in green foliage. It is a green belt region of the city and is an ideal place for nature lovers and those seeking a calm atmosphere.

3. Bannerghatta National Park - Bannerghatta National Park, near Bengaluru, was founded in 1970 and declared as a national park in 1974. It is a popular tourist destination with a zoo, a pet corner, an animal rescue centre, a buttefly enclosure, an aquarium, a snake house and a safari park. Nature lovers and photographers are surely in for a treat in the Bannerghatta National Park. The assorted collection of wildlife here includes elephants, leopards, jackal, fox, wild boar, sloth bear, India gazelle, spotted deer, porcupine, Asiatic Lion, Royal Bengal Tiger, monitor lizard and cobras.

4. Bangalore Palace - An epitome of great architecture and beauty, The Majestic Bangalore Palace preserves in it the spice of old regal opulence. Currently the central attraction in Bangalore, the palace was built in the year 1878. Apart from being a major tourist destination, the palace is a host to different cultural events, rock shows, and marriages. 5. Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace - Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace, in Bangalore, India, is an example of Indo-Islamic architecture and was the summer residence of the Mysorean ruler Tipu Sultan. Hyder Ali commenced its construction within the walls of the Bangalore Fort, and it was completed during the reign of Tipu Sultan in 1791. Once tourists enter the fort, they are bound to feel like they have entered a different place and a different era altogether. The palace has a serene vibe that will make one feel at peace the moment they walk in.

6. ISKCON Temple Bangalore - Sri Radha Krishna Temple has deities of Radha and Krishna located at Rajajinagar, in North Bangalore, Karnataka, India. It is one of the largest ISKCON temples in the world.

7. Lumbini Gardens - Lumbini Gardens is a public park on the banks of the Nagawara Lake in Bangalore, Karnataka named after Lumbini of Nepal. It is dedicated to Lord Budhha. Although the garden is mainly a national park, it is a treat to the eyes with its serene landscapes and lots of greenery. Undoubtedly, Lumbini garden has made its place among the crowd's favourite weekend destinations.

8. HAL Heritage Centre and Aerospace Museum - HAL Aerospace Museum is one of the major public attractions of Bangalore. 9. Ulsoor Lake - Ulsoor Lake or Halasuru Lake, one of the biggest lakes in Bangalore, is located on the eastern side of the city. It derives its name from the name of the locality it is situated, namely, Halasuru, close to M G Road. The lake is also a favourite spot for morning and evening walkers. Fountains can be seen at specific timings. A swimming pool is maintained by the lake, which remains open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, except Wednesdays.

10. St. Mary's Basilica - St. Mary's Basilica is located in the Archdiocese of Bangalore in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is among the oldest churches in Bangalore and the first church in the state that has been elevated to the status of a minor basilica.

11. Halasuru Someshwara Temple - Halasuru Someshwara Temple is located in the neighborhood of Halasuru in Bangalore, India. The oldest temple in the city dating back to the Chola period, it is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.

13. Snow City - Snow City is Bangalore's first snow and ice park spread across 12,500 square feet. 14. Wonderla Bangalore - With a choice of over 60 rides, Wonderla offers its visitors ample of fun! 15. Thottikallu Falls - Thottikallu is a place near Bangalore off the Kanakapura road which is famous for a falls called Thottikallu falls, more popularly known as TK falls. It is also known as 'SwarnaMukhi' water falls. SwarnaMukhi translates as 'Golden-Faced'.

16. Shivoham Shiva Temple -The Shivoham Shiva Temple, situated at Old Airport Road, Bangalore, India was built in 1995. It features a Shiva statue that is 65 feet tall idol.

1. Mysore Palace - Mysore Palace is a historical palace and a royal residence at Mysore. It displays in the palace include royal dresses, souvenirs, musical instruments and weapons used by the Wodeyars. An array of superb paintings including the ones illustrating 8 manifestations of Goddess Shakthi as also a masterpiece by famed artist Raja Ravi Verma finds place in the palace. This marked as one of the largest IndianS palaces and counted among the most famous tourist destinations of India after Taj Mahal.

2. Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens - Mysore Zoo is one of the best zoological gardens in India. It is one of the oldest and most popular zoos in India, and is home to a wide range of species. From Big to small cats, Aquatic to terrestrial birds, and Primates to reptiles, one Hundred and Sixty-Eight species find their place in this zoo. With the beauty of Chamundi Hills beside it, it offered not just a rich flora and fauna but also a breath-taking scenic beauty, incomparable to any other.

3. Chamundeshwari Temple - The Chamundeshwari Temple is a Hindu temple located on the top of Chamundi Hills in Mysore. The temple was named after Chamundeshwari or Durga, the fierce form of Shakti, a tutelary deity held in reverence for centuries by Mysore Maharajas. This is the oldest temple on the hills.

4. Brindavan Gardens - The Brindavan Gardens is a garden located in the Mandya District,  Karnataka. It lies adjoining the Krishnarajasagara dam which is built across the river Kaveri. For kids also, the garden has exciting swings and rides. In the evening, the well-synchronised and lively fountain show with music looks stunning and is completely a stress-buster. This is not the end! Boating in the tranquil waters of River Cauvery is another way to relax and rejuvenate here. Brindavan Gardens is a perfect place to rewind and have ultimate fun with your family.

5. Railway Museum Mysore - The Railway Museum at Mysore, India is an outdoor exhibit of vintage locomotives. One of the major attractions of the museum is the Chamundi Gallery, which has an extensive range of pictures and paintings on the railways and its growth on display. It has two royal coaches on display. These grand coaches that belonged to the Maharaja of Mysore present a real picture of the luxury and grandeur with which the royals used to travel.

6. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary - Also known as Pakshi Kashi of Karnataka, is a bird sanctuary in the Mandya District, as it is only 19 km away from Mysore. It is the largest bird sanctuary in the state on the banks of the Kaveri river. While surveying the area a wide variety of birds here and hence laid highlighted the importance of declaring this area as a bird sanctuary. Nice place to visit with family. The lake is too big and have many crocodiles which can be easily seen here and there. Many birds to watch while you take a boat ride. Better to visit in morning hours. The best time to visit the sanctuary is between the months of June and November as these are nesting month for the birds.

The entry fee for Indians is Rs.50 per person while for visitors with nationality other than Indian, it is Rs.300 per person. The entry timings of Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary are from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.

7. Krishna Raja Sagara Dam - Krishna Raja Sagara, also popularly known as KRS, is a lake and the dam that creates it. Although KRS Dam presents enchanting beauty throughout the year, the best time to visit Krishna Raja Sagara Dam (KRS Dam) is during and after the monsoon season. During the months of June to August, the water increases in the dam due to rainfall, creating a majestic view. Sometimes water flows through the gates that automatically open once the maximum limit of 124 Feet is reached. It is a site worth watching when the water gushes out the gate in full force, creating massive white streams of water.

8. GRS Fantasy Park - GRS is the only amusement cum water park in and around Mysore. Situated just 15 minutes from Mysore. Popular water park with slides, rides, multiple playgrounds & an old-fashioned carousel.

9. Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangapatna - The Ranganthaswamy temple in Srirangapatna, in the Mandya district, is dedicated to the Hindu god Ranganatha. It is one of the five important pilgrimage sites of Sri Vaishnavism along the river Kaveri for devotees of Ranganatha.

10. Sri Nandi Temple - Hindu temple dedicated to Nandi with a massive, popular sculpture of a bull carved from stone. Must see on the way to/from the base of Chamundi hill and Chamundeshwari(Durga) temple at the top of the Chamundi hill. Usually, devotees visit the Nandi temple (open, Nandi statue below trees) on the way down after visiting the Chamundeshwari temple. A small detour has to be taken for the Nandi temple, and back to the main road after the visit. The standalone big statue is majestic. The statue is white now (and not black as in the past)- apparently due to the cleaning of the deposits on it. You will have to climb a few steps from the road to the pedestal on which the statue sits. It is surrounded by trees and it's a serene and spiritual experience.

11. Balmuri Falls - Short, scenic waterfall stretching along a small dam, popular for wading & outdoor picnics. It's a very popular picnic spot from Mysore flanked by coconut palms and green scenery. Featured in several films and its a man-made cascade on the cauvery river.

12. Regional Museum of Natural History - The Regional Museum of Natural History at Mysore, is a museum in India with exhibits on plants, animals and geology of the southern region of India. The historical city of Mysore added another landmark with the opening of the Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH) located on the banks of Karanji lake, and with the backdrop of Chamundi hills, the Museum provides unique opportunity to explore nature and natural world through judicious mix of models. The learning in the captivating environment of the Museum is indeed a fun and truly enjoyable.

13. Tipu Sultan Fort - Srirangapatna Fort is one of the popular sightseeing places located around 23 km away from Mysore. It was once considered to the strongest fort in India, with double walls and four majestic gates. Another striking feature of Srirangapatna Fort is the Lal Mahal which used to be the residence of Tipu Sultan. The palace is now in ruins and is marked by a board describing the same.

14. Colonel Bailey's Dungeon - Venerable prison with a dark history & below-ground torture chambers for foreign prisoners. Just north of Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple is Captain Bailey's Dungeon which was used to imprison British officers. It is a brick and mortar construction just below ground level and has iron hooks embedded into the stone slabs for the officers to be tied and tortured. You also have the view of the river Cauvery flowing just next to the place.

15. Mysore City Lakes - Mysore, Karnataka, has major five lakes, these lakes are: Dalavai Lake, Devanoor Lake, Karanji Lake, Kukkarahalli Lake & Lingambudhi Lake. These lakes are popular picnic spots and are frequented by nature lovers as they attract a number of migratory birds. The area around these lakes is lush green and therefore a good place to relax and rest after a hectic day's work.
