AMRITSAR
The Golden Temple is the most iconic and revered place in Amritsar and one of the holiest sites in Sikhism. Jallianwala Bagh is a historical park and memorial site that marks the tragic massacre of hundreds of Indian civilians by British forces in 1919. The site includes a memorial, a museum, and the well where many people jumped to escape bullets.
Located about 28 km from Amritsar, the Wagah Border is the site of the daily Flag Retreat Ceremony performed by the Indian and Pakistani military. The ceremony is an impressive and highly patriotic display of drills, goose-stepping, and the lowering of the flags.
